A campaigning Welsh law firm has expanded its property team by taking on four commercial and financial service specialists.
Cardiff-based Thomas Simon was a pioneer in bringing action against banks for mis-sold rate swap products that had cost businesses millions of pounds. It lobbied Parliament and launched a press campaign highlighting the issue and was instrumental in pressuring the Financial Conduct Authority into establishing a new review system.
Stuart Brothers, Dave Coles, Emma Hughes and Becky Jones have all joined the firm as its newly-formed commercial property team, with each member specialising in a different aspect of real estate law.
Two other law firms capitalising on the buoyant commercial sector are Solihull-based Shakespeares and Cornish solicitors Coodes.
Shakespeares has hired Martin McQueen as a new partner within its real estate department with special responsibility for commercial property.
And with more than a decade of experience in business and commercial law, Gary Burns has moved from Manchester to strengthen the property team at Coodes’ St Austell office. “His experience in both manufacturing and retail sectors will help complement our team at a very exciting time for the market,” said Coodes’ commercial property head, Helen Willett.
An adventure-hungry lawyer has been appointed head of commercial property at Somerset solicitors Pardoes across its three branches in Taunton, Bridgwater and Yeovil.
Victoria Walker — who has completed the Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours and trekked to over 18,000 feet in the Everest region and on Mount Kilimanjaro — has been hired to expand the range of work undertaken by the firm’s commercial real estate department.
After 13 years south of the border commercial surveyor David Clarke is leaving CBRE Global Investors in London to join one of Scotland’s leading estate agents and property consultants.
Clarke — who has also worked for ING Real Estate and DTZ — will add further experience to CKD Galbraith’s commercial team, which now operates from offices in Edinburgh, Perth and Stirling. His dual brief is to develop the agency’s commercial reach across Scotland while offering specialist energy advice to offshore wind farm companies.
Matt Pullen, CBRE’s former UK boss, has taken up a new post with the newly-formed Zenium Technology Partners as its first managing director. Prior to taking over as head of CBRE’s British operation Pullen oversaw its Europe, Middle East and African service operation for 15 years.
