After a quarter-of-a-century of steering his company to success, the founder of the biggest independent property consultancy in the North-East has announced his retirement.
Retiring: Bill Naylor, founder of Naylors Chartered Surveyors
Bill Naylor — who opened the doors of his Tyne and Wear office in 1990 with one assistant and his wife, Margaret, as secretary — will hand over the reins of Naylors Chartered Surveyors to its current head of asset management, Angus White.
“Bill has built up a highly successful business which has become a key name in the region, respected for its professionalism, client service and integrity,” commented White, who will work alongside co-directors Fergus Laird and Keith Stewart.
“We will continue to uphold these core values after Bill’s retirement at the end of this month and aim to grow and develop the business over the next 25 years,” he added.
Three years after founding his agency from an office in Albany House, Washington, Naylor moved to new premises on Team Valley where his client base continued to expand during the 1990s until the firm finally transferred, in 2008, to its current location at Hadrian House in Newcastle city centre.
Now with offices in both Newcastle and Middlesbrough, Naylors employs 25 specialist staff covering all key services including, building consultancy, asset management and property investment. It is equally well known as a commercial estate agency.

“Naturally I am very proud of the firm’s success, it’s longevity and the strong professional reputation that has been built up over the years on the simple principle of putting “clients first” at all times,” said Bill Naylor.
“However, this couldn’t have been done without the fantastic support I’ve had, not only from Margaret, who is also retiring as Company Secretary, but from everyone who has worked for us down the years.
“In particular,” he added, “our success as a company would not have happened without my co-directors Angus White, Fergus Laird and Keith Stewart. We simply wouldn’t be where we are now without them — I know I am leaving the firm in very strong and capable hands.”
