Rider Levett Bucknall strengthens 2020 Strategy Team

To help it deliver its £70m turnover target by 2020 a Midlands property and construction consultancy has announced a series of new appointments.

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) — which employs almost 100 staff at its Cathedral Court offices on Birmingham’s Colmore Row — has named Stephen Coppin as a partner to head its expanding commercial health and safety services team. His immediate focus will be to ensure that all the company’s clients are ready to meet the upcoming changes to the construction, design and management regulations.

The business development team has also been expanded with the recruitment of Simeon Ling as Midlands’ business development manager. He has worked in the region’s professional services sector for more than 15 years.

Steve Potter, Ian Tuddenham and Glen Corkin are also joining RLB as cost and project management consultants, while Matt Richards and Sam Thiara bolster the firm’s building surveying team.

“Ensuring that we are equipped with the right people and the right skills to continue to deliver optimum results for our clients remains paramount,” commented RLB’s managing partner Nigel Mason. “Without doubt our latest recruits will strengthen the expertise of our Birmingham office and help us to deliver our 2020 growth strategy.”

Law firm Winckworth Sherwood is expanding its Manchester planning team with the appointment of Jo Hannah as a senior associate.

A former head of the planning and technical legal team at Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, she has previously worked with Karen Cooksley and Colette McCormack, partners in Winckworth Sherwood’s planning team, and at Bevan Brittan and Masons, now rebranded as Pinsent Masons. Hannah joins from DWF where she was an associate in its planning law team.

In another Manchester appointment, Michelle Rothwell, a senior surveyor with CBRE in the city, is set to join one of its award-winning clients, commercial developer Capital & Centric as development manager.

Rothwell joined CBRE as a graduate in 2010 and transferred to its office agency team after two years of training. She was promoted to senior surveyor in April this year, handling investment accounts such as Peel and Bruntwood. Before CBRE she had placements at DTZ, Hynes & Co and Bailey Deakin & Hamiltons.

Fraser Brown — Nottingham’s oldest independent law practice — is expanding its commercial property department by with the appointment of a new senior associate.

James Woodward will be joining the 200-year-old firm from SGC Solicitors. and will specialise in all aspects of real estate law as well as providing support to its business services department. Liam Wilkinson, who has just completed his training contract at Fraser Brown, has also been transferred to the commercial property team.

After reporting one of its best years for growth WSP, the global professional services consultancy, has hired Steve Batstone to expand its presence in the South West and Wales.

Previously a senior technical director with the buildings services firm, Atkins, he has over 37 years’ experience across both UK and international markets. Among his development contributions are the Burj al Arab Hotel in Dubai and the London Eye.
