After one of the worst winters on record GVA created a national flood resilience team to offer risk assessment, evacuation planning and flood protection advice. The property consultancy has now named David Hoppe as head of the new unit.
With more than 10 years’ experience of flood risk and resilience, Hoppe is joining the Birmingham-based team from JBA Consulting in Northampton where he was as a senior analyst. Before that he worked for Walsall Council in its emergency planning team as a resilience officer.
“After the recent winter floods, climate change and demand for space, there has never been a more appropriate time for GVA to enhance its development services with a specialist national flood team,” explained Hoppe.
“We want our clients to understand the risks to their investments and present the latest innovative solutions to help reduce the flood risk and the ability to provide this advice in-house further enhances our existing environmental services to clients.”
In a separate GVA appointment, the consultancy has recruited Adam Wildig as a senior surveyor with its North-West property team. The move comes after GVA’s 12-month sales and acquisitions in the region topped £300m.
John Goodwin, who has headed Carter Jonas’s northern planning team since 1996, is stepping down to take on a partnership with the property consultants. He is being replaced by new partner David Boulton.
Based in Harrogate, the eight-strong northern planning team operates from offices in Harrogate, Leeds, York and Kendal and specialises in site assessment, project development, and the preparation and negotiation of planning applications for projects across the north of England.
Boulton joined Carter Jonas in 1999 and has been a partner in the planning and development division since 2007. He was previously a planner in local government in Gloucestershire and County Durham.
“I have been heavily involved in the promotion and management of our business in recent years and I’m delighted to be taking over the reins at this exciting time for the northern planning team,” he said. “This will enable a seamless transition for clients and open new opportunities for our multidisciplinary business.” Boulton will also be responsible for overseeing his teams’ expansion and the setting up of new offices.
As part of a global round of appointments, international lawyers Squire Sanders has promoted real estate lawyer Neil Taylor to a partner at its Birmingham office.
Taylor has a wide range of property experience across both commercial and industrial sectors and has recently specialised retail acquisitions, acting for a number of clients on strategic land and property requirements issues.
