In a strategic move to strengthen their market position two independent North West property consultancies have merged to form Legat Owen (Incorporating Lamont).

The consolidation — between Legat Ownen and Lamont Commercial — has created one of the region’s leading multi-disciplinary, commercial property consultancies. Headquartered in Chester, and with an office in Nantwich, the enlarged firm will now employ 37 staff.

Commenting on the merger, head of Legat Owen (Incorporating Lamont) Peter Johnston, said: “This merger brings together two dynamic and well-respected companies that have a very similar approach to business, taking pride in our commitment to personal service and long-standing client relationships, some of which we share.”

He added that by retaining its independence, the new firm would strengthen its core business and broaden its combined client base. Although Legat Owen (Incorporating Lamont) covers the whole of the UK, its focus will remain on North Wales and Cheshire.

“We will continue to offer our clients a personal service with hands-on involvement at a director level,” Johnston pledged.

The merger announcement coincides with a raft of promotions within the new firm. Matthew Pochin has been promoted to director of industrial agency, Mark Atherton to director of building surveying, James Lutton will take on the role of director of retail agency and Will Sadler is now director of office agency. The new director in charge of the Nantwich office will be Andy Butler.

Sam Tarjomani takes on the role of associate director of valuation and Karen Kilcourse has been promoted to associate at the Nantwich office. Jon Hardie and Heather Johnston have also been promoted to senior surveyors; Hardie in building surveying and Johnston in the office agency.

There have also been several senior level changes with Peter Owen — Legat Owen’s founding partner — stepping down as managing director, as does Neil Lamont, founder of Lamont Commercial. Both will continue as consultants advising some of the company’s longest standing clients.

Sue Harris has also relinquished her position as director and head of Legat Owen’s management department, but will retain a consultancy role.
